Cold Email Campaigns
Goal: Turn contacts into leads (warm them up)
Cold email outreach is both an art and science.
How do you warm-up leads in a way that is appreciated vs spamming the inbox? With the right cold email system, you can have a never-ending flow of leads. Here is how its done…
How it works
The first step is to protect your domain name from the campaign. Cold email is always a little risky because you are emailing people who haven’t heard of your brand. It’s an introduction and some people are always opposed to introductions. So buying a domain name and creating an email specifically for cold email is key.
Once you have your new email setup, you need emails. There are a lot of ways to get emails, but I prefer data mining. Of course you can buy databases with email addresses but you want to make sure that these emails are good quality and not oversold. I prefer getting a database with just the name of the company and website URL. From the website URL, we can find all of the email addresses associated with it. Most business email addresses have a structure. Example, email@example.com, firstName.lastName@company.com, firstInitialLastName@company.com, etc. Once you understand the structure, you would just need a list of employees and you can guess their email addresses.
After compiling the email addresses into your database, you need to run them through a validation service. You want to make sure that the email is legit and it’s not an email known for flagging spam. You would also want to remove the email addresses that don’t fit your target group of people. For example, if you are trying to reach engineers at a company, you wouldn’t want to send the email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Now that you have your list of email addresses, it’s time to write your emails. You would want to start off very slow. This is like proposing a first date vs proposing marriage. I’ve found that a short email works best. I would create a funnel and write out 3-4 emails for the list. If someone doesn’t open the email, wait a week and send it again with a different subject line, if the person opens the email, they shouldn’t get the same email, but instead a follow up. I’ve found that most people don’t respond until the 3rd to 4th email from a cold email campaign.
When someone responds to your email campaign, take the conversation offline. Schedule a call with the lead. If the difference between a contact and a contract is the letter “r”, it stands for “relationship” and a phone conversation is going to strengthen the relationship.
A lot of marketers and companies have no idea how to get results from cold email, but it’s very powerful if done correctly.
Taking it a step further
Even if you don’t get a response via email, you will have collected valuable data.
Who opened the email, who clicked your email’s link, who viewed your website, etc.
Combined with a remarketing pixel, you can retargeting them with Ads and warm up the leads further. You could also launch an incentivized Facebook like campaign. Once a lead likes you on Facebook, you can market to them and to their friends or create a Look-A-Like audience a let Facebook’s algorithm find similar people who might be interested in your products and services.
The greatest thing about this system is it’s scalable. You can send out thousands of emails per week with a click.
